Voice
Voice calls while travelling outside of Manitoba requires that you use 10-digit dialing (area code plus phone number).
Long distance rates for calling within Canada and the U.S. vary by calling plan. Standard long distance rates are 35˘/minute.
Note: When travelling outside of Manitoba, it is important to understand that customers will not always get 4G coverage. As such, you will notice that our coverage maps outside of Manitoba are labeled as “GSM/HSPA” rather than 4G.
Roaming in the U.S.
MTS has excellent coverage throughout the U.S. on both CDMA and 4G wireless networks. If you do extensive travelling in the U.S., please note that CDMA networks currently offer more voice and high speed data coverage than the 4G wireless networks.

Voice Roaming Rates
4G: The per-minute roaming rate for all calls made and received while travelling in the U.S. is $1.45/minute* CDN plus any applicable foreign taxes and includes both roaming and long distance charges if applicable.
* Excludes calls to or from cruise ships, satellites, Cuba, Falkland islands or the Cook islands (list may change without notice).
CDMA: The per-minute roaming rate for all calls made and received while travelling in the U.S. is 99˘/minute USD plus any applicable foreign taxes . There will be an additional 35˘ long distance charge when placing a call to a different calling area (i.e. a different city, province, state within the U.S. or Canada) plus any applicable foreign taxes.
Rates for international long distance calls made while in the U.S. will vary depending on the carrier providing your roaming signal. Dial 611 to find the rates before placing your international call.
Please note that CDMA Voice Roaming Prices are in U.S. dollars but will be converted into Canadian dollars on your wireless bill.
Date Roaming Rates
Data roaming rates while travelling in the U.S. depend on your wireless plan. The standard U.S. Data Roaming rates on smartphone plans range between $3/MB and $8/MB.
When accessing the Internet using our Mobile Web service (i.e. not using a smartphone) you will pay $0.07/KB. Unlike our domestic rates, there is no cap on this rate for service while roaming.
If you do not currently subscribe to a Value Pack or rate plan that includes Media messaging (i.e. picture or video message) you will pay 50˘ per message plus any applicable data charges.
CDMA network customers can save on roaming rates by signing up for the MTS U.S. Data Roaming Bundle.
Text Messaging Rates
As always, there is no charge for receiving a text message, whether you are in Manitoba or roaming in the U.S. The pay-per-use cost of sending text messages while in the U.S. is 35˘/message (up to a max $35/month).
International Roaming
4G: MTS now has roaming coverage in over 200 countries around the world. This means 6X the global coverage when compared to our existing CDMA network.

CDMA: The CDMA network offers excellent coverage within Manitoba, throughout North America, and several international destinations. The CDMA network does not provide coverage to as many international locations as the 4G wireless network.
If you currently own a CDMA wireless device and are planning a trip outside of North America, please visit your nearest MTS Dealer to verify your device's international roaming capability.

CDMA World Devices
Certain devices within our CDMA line-up, often referred to as World Devices, offer enhanced international roaming functionality. World Devices will roam on GSM networks around the world where CDMA coverage is not available. However, please note that HSPA devices provide a greater level of international coverage.

International Voice Roaming Rates:
4G: Voice rates vary based on your location and are organized according to different international zones. Before travelling, please ensure you know which zone you will be in, so you will know what your rates will be. The zones are as follows:
*Prices apply to all calls – including incoming, in-country and international (including Canada). Prices are in Canadian dollars.
*Excludes calls to or from cruise ships, satellites, Cuba, Falkland islands or the Cook islands (list may change without notice).
CDMA: The per-minute roaming rate for all calls made and received while travelling internationally is 99˘/minute USD plus any applicable foreign taxes. There will be an additional 75˘/minute long distance charge plus any applicable foreign taxes when placing a call to a different calling area (i.e. a different city/town).
Rates for international calls will vary; the charges are based on the carrier providing your roaming signal. Dial 611 to find the rate before placing your international call.
CDMA Voice Roaming Prices are in U.S. dollars but will be converted into Canadian dollars on your monthly wireless bill.
CDMA World Device
The roaming rates for your World Phone will depend on whether you are roaming on a CDMA network or a GSM network. During International travel, your CDMA phone may need to switch to GSM Mode to ensure coverage. Once you switch to GSM mode, your voice call rates will change:
International Roaming Service Charges in GSM Mode
The International Roaming Service Flat Rate applies only to calls made on GSM networks.
Voice Calls in GSM Mode:
- Outgoing and Incoming calls for International Roaming in GSM Mode
- $2.49 CDN per minute plus any applicable foreign taxes
