What Types of Plans Does GreatCall Offer?

GreatCall offers a variety of plan options for seniors, including talk, text, data, as well as integrated health and safety features. Base plans range from $24.99 to $59.99, although customers should be aware that this is before factoring in any additional cost for health and safety coverage.

GreatCall Unlimited Plans

While there are no family plans available for GreatCall, there are a total of three unlimited talk and text plans available for seniors to choose from, depending on personal needs and priorities.

Unlimited Talk and Text

GreatCall’s Unlimited Talk and Text plan is a basic plan only available for the Jitterbug Flip. It’s a great option for seniors who primarily use their phone for calling and/or texting since this plan doesn’t include data. Keep in mind, the Jitterbug Flip can’t connect to the internet or WiFi, so seniors who may want to switch to a data plan later on will need the Jitterbug Smart2. Additionally, the Unlimited Talk and Text plan is a solid choice for seniors looking to primarily take advantage of GreatCall’s health and safety features.

Unlimited Talk and Text + 100MB of Data

This GreatCall plan is just a few dollars more than the no-data plan above, and it includes unlimited talk and text as well as 100MB of data—customers on this plan must have the Jitterbug Smart2. While 100MB is a pretty meager amount, it may be enough for seniors who want the knowledge they’ll be able to access the internet in case they want to look something up or use navigation while they’re out of the house. For reference, 100MB equals about an hour of streaming on YouTube or Spotify or browsing Facebook.

Unlimited Talk, Text, and Data

Like the 100MB plan, the GreatCall Unlimited Talk, Text, and Data plan is for the Jitterbug Smart2 only. For seniors that frequent data-heavy apps and tasks (i.e. social media and video streaming), this plan may be the best course of action—as there are no overage fees to worry about with this option.

GreatCall Limited Plans

For seniors who don’t require an unlimited plan and are looking to save a bit of money, GreatCall has a variety of mix-and-match options to pick from. By choosing the amount of minutes, messages, and data desired, seniors can customize their phone plans so that they’re paying for what they need.

Compare GreatCall & Other Unlimited Senior Plans

With GreatCall’s primary focus being safety features and devices for seniors, its unlimited plans may not be the most cost-effective option—particularly for those who have no need for added health and safety coverage. Seniors looking for an affordable unlimited plan may want to consider looking at discounts offered by Consumer Cellular, which offers discounts for AARP members, or major carriers like T-Mobile and Verizon, which offer discounts for people 55 years and older.

Consumer Cellular Unlimited

While Consumer Cellular does not offer health or safety plans in the way that GreatCall does, it still caters specifically to the senior demographic with features like AARP discounts, excellent customer service, and tons of plan flexibility. In addition, there is the option for a shared family plan, costing a mere $15 for each additional line. Keep in mind that Consumer Cellular operates on both AT&T and T-Mobile’s networks, both of which have excellent coverage.

T-Mobile Magenta Unlimited 55+ YRS ONLY

A slightly cheaper alternative would be T-Mobile’s Magenta Unlimited Plan, exclusively for seniors 55 and older. This plan includes unlimited talk, text, and data, and 3GB of 4GLTE hotspot access, in addition to international travel benefits.

Verizon Unlimited Plan for 55+

While GreatCall technically operates on Verizon’s network, for the same $60 (w/ AutoPay) seniors living in Florida have the opportunity to sign-up directly with Verizon’s network—taking advantage of the benefits of being with a major carrier. Some added benefits include unlimited hotspot data, unlimited calls/texts to Mexico/Canada, and a free year of Disney+.
