Metro by T-Mobile (formerly MetroPCS) International Add-Ons

Metro by T-Mobile (formerly MetroPCS) has a robust offering of international add-ons for their cell phone plans, highlighted by their Canada Unlimited and Mexico Unlimited add-ons.

Unlike Metro’s parent company T-Mobile, whose plans come with at least some (if not many) international features, the carrier formerly known as MetroPCS does not include international perks with their plans. You’ll have to add on international services to your Metro plan if you want to be able to call or text abroad.

Outside of their Mexico and Canada add-ons, Metro’s international add-ons consist of their Global Voice add-ons and My World add-ons for making calls and texting (when applicable) to other countries around the world.

Mexico Unlimited

With the Mexico Unlimited add-on from Metro by T-Mobile you get:

• Unlimited calling to and from Mexico
• Unlimited data in Mexico at 5Mbps
• Unlimited texting in Mexico

Canada Unlimited

Like the Mexico Unlimited add-on, the Canada Unlimited add-on will only cost you $5/month. With this add-on you get:

• Unlimited calling to and from Canada
• Unlimited data in Canada at 5Mbps
• Unlimited texting in Canada

Metro by T-Mobile’s Global Voice

Metro by T-Mobile’s Global Voice add-on allows you to call to numbers in select countries around the world. There are a handful of different Global Voice options to choose from with the main differences between each being:

• The number of minutes included in the add-on
• The countries included

Global Voice add-ons are only available for $30 and above Metro plans.

Global Voice perks do not apply when roaming and cannot be combined with any other Metro international add-ons except for the Mexico and Canada Unlimited add-ons.

These options do not include texting.

Haiti Calling Service

Metro’s Haiti Calling Service add-ons, available for Metro’s $40 plan or higher, allows you to call phone numbers in, you guessed it, Haiti. For $10/month you get an allotment of 40 minutes, or for $20/month you can talk for up to 80 minutes. Texting is not included and service is not available when roaming.

Metro by T-Mobile (MetroPCS) International Add-Ons Compared to Others

Metro International Add-Ons Vs. T-Mobile Postpaid

The biggest difference you’ll find between these two carriers is that T-Mobile’s postpaid plans come with at least some international services. The carrier’s Essentials plan includes texting to over 210 countries plus data in Mexico and Canada. The T-Mobile Magenta and Magenta Plus Plans come with texting and data in over 210 countries plus unlimited talk, text, and an allotment of high-speed data in Mexico and Canada. With the exception of Canada and Mexico, Metro by T-Mobile plans and add-ons don’t come with calling, texting or data perks in other countries.

Metro International Add-Ons Vs. T-Mobile Prepaid

T-Mobile’s prepaid plans are more similar to Metro’s plans in that they do not include international perks. Add-ons are available for service to and from Mexico and Canada as well as texting and calling services to over 70 countries when calling landline numbers, and over 30 countries when calling mobile lines.

Pricing is very similar with Canada and Mexico add-ons costing $5/month which is right on par with Metro’s Canada and Mexico add-ons. T-Mobile’s international calling add-on cost $15/month for unlimited calling and texting which is a nice flat rate compared to Metro’s varying rates that depend on the amount of minutes you want.

Metro by T-Mobile Vs Cricket Wireless

Like Metro, Cricket is owned by one of the four major cell phone carriers (AT&T). Unlike Metro by T-Mobile, Cricket does include international services in their Unlimited and Unlimited Extra plan where customers can text to phones in 37 different countries.

Cricket’s pricing for their international add-ons is simpler than Metro’s. For $5/month you can make calls to landlines in 35 different countries and for $15/month you can also text to those countries as well as call (up to 1,000 minutes) to people in 31 different countries.

Metro by T-Mobile has the edge over Cricket Wireless when it comes to the amount of countries included in their international add-ons. With Metro’s Global Voice you can reach over 140 different countries.
