Sony Smartphones
What do PlayStation, Spider-Man, and recording artist Khalid have in common? All are under the Sony umbrella. Sony is a monster of a corporation with hands in seemingly everything. Among the many Sony subsidiaries is Sony Mobile which designs and manufactures phones under the Sony brand.
Sony Mobile, headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo, Japan, was founded as Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications in 2001 when Sony’s mobile division (at the time, just barely dabbling in the market) merged with the well-established Swedish company, Ericsson. Sony Ericsson is credited for helping bring about the cell phone camera revolution—producing some of the first phones that featured built-in digital cameras.
Having built phones on the Symbian OS and Windows Mobile, Sony Mobile phones are now running on Android.
Sony Ericsson had a number of different model names for their phones available on the market, but now as Sony Mobile, all of Sony’s phones fall under their brand, Xperia.
